ASUU to call off seven months old strike — ASSU President

  The Speaker of the House of Reps in a meeting with the Leadership of ASUU to end the seven month old strike Prof. Emmanuel Osodeke, the President of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has said that the union would soon call off its seven months old strike. Osodeke said this at a meeting with the leadership of the House of Representatives on Monday in Abuja. He said from what the union had seen at the meeting there is light at the end of the tunnels, adding that this time around it hoped that there would not be any persons or group to create issues that would make the union run into any hitchHe said that it hoped the intervention by the leadership of the House would be the final for the sake of the students, adding that ASUU’s struggle was for the educational system in Nigeria and the university system. Release Of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu

The Court of Appeal in Abuja, on Thursday, struck out the terrorism charges filed against Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the  Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB)   by the Nigerian government. The court struck out all the remaining seven charges against Mr Kanu. It followed an earlier ruling of the trial judge, Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court in Abuja, in April dismissing eight of the 15 amended counts filed against him by the federal government. In a judgement on Thursday, the Court of Appeal panel led by Jummai Sankey struck out all remaining charges against Mr Kanu, ruling that the lower court “lacks the jurisdiction to entertain the suit.” The court held that Mr Kanu’s extradition from Kenya in June 2021 to Nigeria without following the extradition rules was a flagrant violation of Nigeria’s extradition treaty and a breach of the IPOB leader’s fundamental human rights.
